As we enter the 2017 holiday season on Bainbridge Island, there are many opportunities to enjoy – and purchase – local arts and crafts. Skip the “big box” stores and online shopping for a day, and take time to tour studios, meet artists, and enjoy the scenic beauty of the island.
Start by getting into the spirit with a holiday open house in downtown Winslow, 10am-6pm on Saturday Nov. 25. Get your free hot chocolate in Madrone Lane, then from 1-3:30pm you can hop a free horse-drawn carriage rides starting from Winslow Green. The annual tree-lighting ceremony is from 6-7:30pm, and includes music, entertainment and the arrival of Santa Clause on a Bainbridge Island Fire Department truck. Local merchants are participating in Elves on the Shelves and a gift card give-away from Nov. 25-Dec. 8.
Kick off the first weekend in December with the First Friday Art Walk, 6pm-8pm in downtown Winslow. Come see works by Chris Demarest – KOKORO ART THAT HEALS at our office, Coldwell Banker Bain of Bainbridge Island, located at 299 Madison Avenue N. (see our Contact page for directions).
The weekend of Dec. 1-3 is a busy one with both the Bainbridge Island Studio Tour and Christmas in the Country scheduled. The Bainbridge Island Studio Tour features 56 artists and seven studios in a free, self-guided art show. Studios range from Hidden Cove Pottery and Tile at the north end of Bainbridge Island to the American Legion Hall on Bucklin Hill Road at the south end. More information is available at the Bainbridge Island Studio Tour website (www.bistudiotour.com), where you can download a map and schedule.
Christmas in the Country is also self-guided, with venues including historic homes, farms, and studios, as well as at St. Barnabas Church, Lynwood Commons, Meli Melo Island Vintage Boutique in downtown Winslow, Countryman Stables and Hazel Creek Farm. And for the kids, Satuday Dec. 9 the Bainbridge Island Parks Department hosts “Winter Wonderland” at Waterfront Park, 4-9pm. The free event includes light features, face painting, a snow feature, holiday present crafts, Santa Claus and cider. For more information, visit biparks.org/special-events.
