What to do on Bainbridge Island before the 4th?

There’s no shortage of activities in the run-up to the Grand Old 4th on Bainbridge Island.  From boating to art to dancing in the streets, Bainbridge has it all.

After the Rotary Auction on July 1 there’s the City of Bainbridge Boater’s Fair, where you can learn about all aspects of boating on Bainbridge Island. With an emphasis on boater safety, you’ll have opportunities to learn about knot-tying, cruise planning, scuba and kayaking, and rigging sailboats. You can also tour the Bainbridge Island Police Department’s 33′ SAFE boat “Marine 8”, attend a small boat auction, learn about rowing from the Bainbridge Rowing Club, and get clean boater swag from Washington Sea Grant.

The Boater’s Fair is Sunday, July 2, from 11am to 3pm at Eagle Harbor Waterfront Park. For more information, visit www.bainbridgewa.gov/683/Boaters-Fair.

On the same day at the same time, you can also see Arts in the Park, featuring local and regional artists painting, drawing or sketching  en plein air  to raise money for the arts community on Bainbridge Island. The newly created pieces will be included in a silent auction at the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art, Sunday July 2 from 6pm-8pm. For additional information on Arts in the Park, visit the Arts & Humanities Bainbridge website at ahbainbridge.org.

A scene from the 2016 July 3 street dance.

On Monday dance your feet off at the 30th annual July 3rd Street Dance, 6pm-11pm on Winslow Way. Produced by the Bainbridge Island Downtown Association, the event features food, a beer and wine garden, “family fun” for the kids, and music by The Hep Replacements, Buckshot, and Psycho Sushi, plus DJ Music Masters. All ages will be dancing on Winslow Way, from toddlers to seniors. If you’re new to Bainbridge Island, just visiting, or a longtime resident, you don’t want to miss the fun.
